01 / The Model
Temperature
A setting that controls how predictable the output is. Low gives steady, conservative answers. High gives more varied, more creative ones.
How you’ll hear it
“Why are the product descriptions all so different?”
“The temperature is high. Turn it down for anything factual.”
Avoid
Using a high temperature for factual or regulated content.
The longer version
Temperature adjusts how the model chooses among likely next tokens. Lower values favour the most likely choice and give steadier output; higher values allow less likely choices and more variety. Even at the lowest setting, identical output is not guaranteed.
