01 / The Model
Model
The thing people mean when they say "the AI". A very large set of numbers that predicts text. It has no memory, no goals, and can do nothing on its own. Everything useful is built around it.
How you’ll hear it
“Which model are we on?”
“The newest one, but the gains came from the harness, not the upgrade.”
Avoid
Saying “the model decided” or “the model remembered”. It predicts text. Everything else is built around it.
The longer version
A model is a file of numbers produced by training. Give it text and it predicts what comes next. It does not browse, remember or act by itself. When a product seems to do those things, the behaviour comes from the software wrapped around the model.
