Tying an answer to specific sources the model was given, ideally with references you can check. The opposite of answering from memory.

“Where did that figure come from?”
“It is grounded. The reference points to page twelve of the report.”
Avoid
Accepting answers with no traceable source in high-stakes work.
The longer version
A grounded answer is based on supplied sources and shows where each claim came from. Grounding makes AI output checkable, and checkable is the basis for trusting it in legal, financial and regulated work.
